Yes folks its official!
After at Titanic Struggle against league leaders Brimbank Stallions on Sunday 11th July, Watsonia Hieghts now sits on top of the 16B Girls North West Leader.
In a dramatic match, Watsonia took the lead when Bella Cameron rounded a couple of the Brimbank defenders, seeming to have all the time in the world, and then placed her shot beautifully to the right of the keeper.
The score remained 1-0 till the half time break.
In the seconed, half a superb free kick by Guilia Cerone was picked of by Chloe Mithcell who hit in text-book header for a simply
brilliant 2nd goal.
This really stirred the possum, and Brimbank were not going to give up and simply go home. They answered with two goals in succession, one a cracking corner that just went straight in!
With the scores locked at 2-2, Brit Thomas found herself in good position after a great setup and she scored what became the winning goal.
It was a fantastic performance by "Team Watsonia" with superb goal keeping by Ella Witton, who "saved the bacon" on a number of occassions. Special mention needs also to be made of the absolute courage shown by Mel Turl, when she was racing into goal and got cleaned up and literally spun in the air with the force and momentum of her attack on the ball. After being stretchered off, fortunately Mel is still in one piece we hope she will back on field again soon!
